Clean water is essential for nature and people to function. Nature knows no limits, polluted water can flow to the other side, that is why it is so important to treat it on both sides of the border. On the area supported by the project, the sewerage and water supply network is incomplete, so the quality of municipal services is poor. Residents and institutions operating in the area have low environmental awareness. There are cases of illegal sewage discharge and illegal waste dumps, which make worse the condition of soil and water, including the So\u0142okija and Krynica Be\u0142\u017cecka rivers flowing through the project area. This generates a risk of epidemiological hazards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Main infrastructure activities include the construction of a sanitary sewage system (length about 3.7 km) and 2 sewage treatment plants \u2013 in Brzeziny (PL) and Belz (UA). About 540 people will be connected to the network (PL \u2013 290, UA \u2013 250). Promotional activities include: an information and promotional meeting inaugurating the implementation of the project in Belz, 2 study visits to Ukraine and Poland, international scientific and information conference \u201cEcology and environmental policy of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland. Objectives, methods of implementation and examples of good practices\u201d in Be\u0142\u017cec (PL). Moreover, international scientific and practical conference \u201cEuropean Integration and Environmental Policy\u201d, information and promotional meeting at the end of the project in Be\u0142\u017cec Commune as well as a campaign in local and regional media will be organised. It is planned that 175 people will take part in the joint cross-border activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All of these measures will help create a cleaner and safer environment for the region\u2019s residents. These actions will allow marginalised regions of Polish-Ukrainian borderland to reduce disproportions in water and sewage infrastructure more quickly. This will enable to make better use of the assets, such as improvement of tourist attractiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
