The Voivodeship Headquarters of the State Fire Service (PSP) in Lublin has been involved in cross-border cooperation for over 20 years. It carried out its first projects under the 2004\u20132006 Programme. The experience gained at that time demonstrated that safety does not end at an administrative border, and that effective protection of life and the environment requires close cooperation between emergency services from neighbouring countries. Subsequent projects, joint exercises and the exchange of experiences have only served to confirm the importance of this cooperation. In the face of threats such as forest fires, extreme weather events or natural disasters, what counts is the speed of response, the compatibility of procedures and mutual trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building on these experiences, the ClimSafe<\/a><\/em> project was launched: \u2018Joint promotion and implementation of activities related to climate change resilience \u2013 natural disasters and fires\u2019, carried out by the Voivodeship Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lublin and the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Volyn Oblast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ClimSafe<\/em> project has received over 2 MEUR in funding for the purchase of modern fire engines, the implementation of radio communication systems, the organisation of joint exercises and educational activities. The effects of the project are already visible in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. Two pick-up-type operational vehicles and two fire and rescue vehicles \u2013 one medium and one heavy \u2013 have been purchased. The Integrated Radio Communications System has also been expanded to include six remotely controlled base stations located in the districts of Tomasz\u00f3w, Hrubiesz\u00f3w, Che\u0142m, W\u0142odawa and Bia\u0142a Podlaska. The system significantly reduces emergency response times and improves coordination of operations in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project partners meet regularly to discuss the progress of the project. They plan joint exercises and develop solutions that strengthen the region\u2019s resilience to existing threats. The project not only invests in infrastructure and equipment, but above all builds lasting partnerships, expertise and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a superbly designed and much-needed project. It aims to build joint cross-border resilience amongst emergency and fire services. We are neighbours, and threats know no administrative boundaries.<\/p>\n
