In the last days of June, in Ostrówek (Mazowieckie, PL), a ceremonial handover of rescue and fire-fighting equipment to 5 volunteer firefighting units (OSP) from the Siedlce Commune took place. It was organized as part of the project: ‘Together for safety in a cross-border area’ (acronym SAFETY).

The project is being implemented with the participation of 5 partners from Poland and Ukraine. Its main objective is to establish 2 Modular Safety Centres in Ukraine, in the town of Brody and the village of Kolochava, as well as to purchase the equipment, including radiotelephones, training dummies, hydraulic tool kits, power generators, thermal imaging cameras, etc. In addition, the Polish partners will receive 3 fire and rescue vehicles. The value of the equipment purchased is more than EUR 100,000, while the total project budget is more than 2 MEUR.

As a result of the SAFETY project, 9 rescue units on both sides of the border will be equipped with modern equipment for saving the environment and human property. These activities are accompanied by training for emergency services and initiatives raising awareness among residents.

The ceremonial handover of the equipment was attended by representatives of the local authorities, including Siedlce Commune Mayor Henryk Brodowski and Mazovia Voivodeship Board Member Janina Ewa Orzełowska, representatives of all the volunteer firefighting units from the Siedlce Commune area and the local media.
