Numbers usually reflect reality in the simplest and most specific way, that is why we present the ‘Programme in numbers’ series, previously carried out on the PBU 2014-2020 website, to showcase the Interreg NEXT Poland – Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme, its projects, activities and joint cross-border achievements through the lens of numbers.
We invite you to read!
The PL-UA 2021-2027 Programme implements projects that aim to protect and maintain fragile natural resources in the Polish-Ukrainian border area. These areas are particularly vulnerable to pollution caused by human activity and the effects of climate change.
The Programme focuses on the protection of areas that are unique in terms of biodiversity, including those belonging to the Natura 2000 and Emerald Network (pan-European ecological network of Areas of Special Conservation Interest) and those protected under national legislation in Poland and Ukraine. Support is also being given to initiatives to improve connectivity between transboundary ecological corridors to facilitate the movement of animals.
The implementation of all of these activities is supported by the projects of the ENVIRONMENT priority, specific objective 1.3: Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution.
- 11 projects are being implemented in the Programme under Objective 1.3
- 17.6 million euros is the total amount allocated to the partners of these projects
- 164 000 ha of Natura 2000 sites will be covered by protection and restoration measures
- 57 000 ha of protected and valuable natural sites other than Natura 2000 will be covered by protection and restoration measures
- 10 forms of nature protection will be supported
- 27 information and education campaigns will be carried out to raise environmental awareness
- 3 000 people will take part in joint cross-border activities
- 12 common solutions for nature and biodiversity protection will be developed by partners from Poland and Ukraine
- 6 joint planning documents relating to environmental protection will be developed in projects
More information about the Programme’s projects from the ENVIRONMENT thematic objective can be found on the website in the Projects database.
