Representations of 16 schools from Poland and Ukraine took part in the Finals of the Youth Education Campaign "Let's follow the common trail!", organised on the occasion of Interreg Cooperation Day. The final event took place this time in Solina, Bieszczady Mountains (PL) on 2-5 October.
The finalists were selected from the representations of 20 schools which in spring had submitted qualifying entries relating to the campaign theme. One of the tasks was to prepare a mini-project which could positively change their neighbourhood. Teams from the Podlaskie, Lubelskie, Podkarpackie (PL), as well as Lviv, Volyn, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Zakarpattia (UA) border regions were qualified for the Finals.
During their 4-day stay in the Bieszczady Mountains, the young people took part in dance, ecology, cartography and rescue workshops, working together in mixed Polish-Ukrainian teams. In this way, they not only honed their skills in these areas, but also learnt cooperation and the language of their neighbours. These activities resulted in joint final presentations. The students also took part in a thematic field game.
An important part of the event was an excursion in the Bieszczady Mountains, during which participants visited places related to the implementation of the Programme projects, which are also major tourist attractions. At the end, all participants in the Final received prize kits and commemorative diplomas. Many of them announced that they would certainly take part in future editions.
'These days brought a lot of emotions, opportunities to communicate with other participants, we learned a lot,' said Andrii Lobach from Lyceum No. 4 in Lutsk (UA)
'This final is a reward, it's a great thing. Young people integrate, make new friends. They are having a great time, and at the same time it is educational, or as the ancient Greeks used to say: play to learn,' summed up Joanna Chmur, teacher and group leader from the Primary School in Choroszcz in Podlasie (PL)
Our Programme's educational campaign aimed at students – as authors of future European projects – has a long tradition. Previous finals were held, among others, in Grodno, Lviv and Rzeszów – always in connection with the European Cooperation Day, which is celebrated on 21st September.
