Numbers usually reflect reality in the simplest and most specific way, that is why we present the ‘Programme in numbers’ series, previously carried out on the PBU 2014-2020 website, to showcase the Interreg NEXT Poland – Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme, its projects, activities and joint cross-border achievements through the lens of numbers.

The water and sewage infrastructure guarantees the safe collection and treatment of wastewater and provides access to clean drinking water. Above all, however, it is of utmost importance for the quality of life of residents and environmental concerns.
The lack of a sewage network often necessitates the use of domestic septic tanks, which can be inconvenient and costly. Moreover, leaking tanks can lead to soil and groundwater contamination, posing a threat to human and animal health. Water management and conservation are currently key challenges faced by highly developed countries, while access to clean drinking water remains essential.
Thus, the expansion and modernisation of water and sewerage systems is not only a matter of convenience, but also an important step towards improving sanitation, rational management of water resources and supporting sustainable development of municipalities and cities. The implementation of these and similar measures in the PL-UA Programme is served by the projects of the ENVIRONMENT priority, specific objective 1.2: Promote access to water and sustainable water management (in the PBU Programme, sewerage networks were extended under the HERITAGE and SECURITY thematic objectives).
- 17 projects are being implemented in the Programme, under specific objective 1.2
- 42 MEUR is the total amount of funding awarded to the partners of these projects
- 3 new municipal wastewater treatment plants will be built under the Programme
- 6 municipal wastewater treatment plants will be upgraded
- 107.24 km of sewerage networks will be constructed or upgraded (as part of collective sewage disposal systems)
- 300 000 people will benefit from connecting households to collective wastewater treatment systems
