Despite differences in public health care systems between Poland and Ukraine, local municipal medical institutions along the border face similar challenges: shortages of equipment and staff, rising patient numbers and the growing need for specialised services. These needs have intensified due to the ongoing migration of Ukrainian war refugees to Poland and the increasing demand for rehabilitation services in Ukraine.
To tackle these issues, the RehabHelpPL-UA project sets out to significantly improve access to high-quality medical services through targeted investments in infrastructure, equipment and staff training. Renovation and modernisation of two wards: Internal Medicine with cardiac and gastroenterology profiles, and the rehabilitation clinic, are foreseen for the Municipal Hospital in Białystok (PL) to enhance diagnostic accuracy and streamline the treatment-to-rehabilitation process in a comfortable environment. Meanwhile, the Volodymyr Hospital (UA) foe will gain modern, high-tech equipment. Patients will benefit from seamless access to rehabilitation services, including AI-powered rehab services for Ukrainian wounded soldiers. Both institutions will expand psychological support for individuals facing depression and trauma. In addition, the project emphasises long-term collaboration by establishing teleconsultation systems. It will enable the exchange of medical records, along with tele-imaging records from devices such as ultrasound, CT, and MRI.
This initiative will foster long-term cooperation, allow for the exchange of best practices among medical staff, and lay the groundwork for teleconsultation between the units. As a result, residents in border areas will gain access to high-quality medical care, including psychological services at both hospitals.
