Clean drinking water is something everyone should have access to. Running water in homes and unpolluted water in rivers and lakes are interrelated. The WATER project was designed to improve both water supply and wastewater treatment in Ukraine and Poland, focusing on the social and environmental aspects of the issue and promoting sustainable water management.

The project includes the construction and reconstruction of water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure in Pulmo and Shatsk villages (Volyn Oblast), the construction and reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Rivne and Kvasyliv (Rivne Oblast), the construction of sewerage facilities and water management systems in Ternopil, the reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Svaliava (Zakarpattia Oblast), and the construction of sewerage systems in Lipina Nowa and Zawoda villages, Skierbieszow Commune, Lublin Voivodeship. Additionally, training will be conducted for professionals responsible for water management. The Concept of Sustainable Development of Water Use and Engineering Sanitation in the Programme area will be developed, with its main tasks and principles incorporated into regional programs. Importantly, a joint web portal will be created to help local governments and authorities monitor groundwater levels as well as water levels in rivers and lakes.

As a result, the WATER project will ensure improved water supply to over 40 thousand people, and more than 11 thousand people will be connected to newly built or reconstructed water supply systems. It will contribute to reducing water pollution in the basins of cross-border rivers and reservoirs, decrease lake eutrophication, and preserve the water balance of the ecosystems in these areas.
