Safety Picnic in Uzhhorod: learning about safety through play

On October 10, the courtyard of the Zakarpattia Regional Center for Children and Youth Creativity hosted the Safety Picnic – an interactive event for schoolchildren, organised by the Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine Programme together with the RescueFirstAid and UP2FireSafety projects.
The aim of the event was to teach children, in an engaging and accessible way, how to act in emergencies and how to protect themselves and others.

Participants took part in interactive presentations on how to behave during fires, floods, thunderstorms, or earthquakes. They learned how to recognise dangerous objects and call emergency services correctly. During the event children tried themselves as rescuers in the “Rescue Team” game, where they extinguished a simulated fire; practiced first aid skills and the use of rescue equipment; and met the mountain rescue team to learn about safety rules during hikes. Children could even try on a real rescuer’s uniform.

I’d like to be a rescuer – I like putting out fires, saving people, and you can even fly a helicopter!

– shared his impressions Mykolka Velykach.

In addition to the intensive practical activities, children enjoyed a Wheel of Fortune quiz about PL-UA Programme and the EU, along with sweets and gifts — because learning safety can be fun!

The Safety Picnic in Uzhhorod became a vivid example of combining learning and play, creating a space where children felt part of a team that knows how to act in emergencies.
