Category: Project News

Numbers usually reflect reality in the simplest and most specific way, that is why we present the 'Programme in numbers' series, previously carried out on the PBU 2014-2020 website, to showcase the Interreg NEXT Poland – Ukraine 2021-2027 Programme, its projects, activities and joint cross-border achievements through the lens of numbers.

We invite you to read!

In the 2021-2027 edition of the Programme, we support institutions and services in adapting to climate change and preventing natural disasters. Our goal is to enable project beneficiaries to acquire the latest equipment, exchange experiences, and develop skills that will allow them to respond more effectively to events such as fires, storms or droughts. This support will ultimately help protect the natural environment, residents of the border area, and their property.

The activities are implemented through projects under the ENVIRONMENT priority, specific objective 1.1: Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention and resilience, taking support will ultimately into account an eco-system based approach.

  • 17 projects are being implemented under objective 1.1 of the Programme
  • 33.5 M EUR is the total amount allocated to the project partners
  • 112 rescue service units will be retrofitted with equipment for rescue operations and managing disaster aftermath
  • 53 rescue vehicles will be purchased in the projects, including:
    • 39 heavy and medium-duty rescue and firefighting vehicles,
    • 14 light rescue and firefighting vehicles,
    • 8 operational vehicles designed for tasks, such as transporting people or delivering drinking water.

53 rescue vehicles will be purchased

These vehicles are intended to respond to fires in various areas, including mountainous regions – as the Carpathians are a significant part of the Programme area on both sides of the border. Rescue operations will also address water rescue needs, and for this purpose, the projects will purchase:

  • 2 rescue boats,
  • 3 water scooters,
  • 1 diving rescue platform.

To further enhance the safety and protection of the residents against ecological and natural disasters:

  • Almost 8 M EUR will be invested in new or upgraded monitoring, warning and response systems;
  • 5 720 participants will join the cross-border activities;
  • 1 909 participants will take part in specialised rescue trainings;
  • 13 joint strategic documents will be developed by rescue services to provide guidance and solutions on how to respond to crises situations.
