In the border area of Poland and Ukraine, the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident: droughts, local flooding, water shortages, and the ongoing degradation of the natural environment. These challenges are intensified by low environmental awareness, insufficient use of green infrastructure, and a lack of joint actions to protect biodiversity. While the scale of these issues exceeds the scope of individual initiatives, this project represents a step toward more sustainable and conscious management of public space.
As part of the project BioGreenInfra, green infrastructure will be developed around hospitals in Białystok County and Uzhhorod. These investments will be preceded by research conducted by scientific institutions, which will identify the best ways to develop these areas to support local biodiversity. Project partners will exchange knowledge, conduct training sessions, and jointly develop recommendations for environmentally friendly investment planning. The outcomes will include green walkways, therapeutic gardens, water retention systems, and the planting of vegetation adapted to the climatic conditions on both sides of the border. The project will combine expert knowledge with practical actions and will raise environmental awareness among residents, local authorities, and public institutions. While it will not solve all existing problems, it will contribute to improving the quality of public space and serve as a foundation for future joint environmental protection initiatives.
