Project description

The importance of preserving the biodiversity of the Uzhanskyi National Nature Park and Magura National Park is very important. These parks are real treasuries of biodiversity and play a key role in preserving the natural heritage of the Carpathians.

Within the Youth4EcoEdu project a comprehensive audit of the ecosystems of these parks will be conduct. Its results will have a use for developing effective strategies for parks’ conservation and restoration. The interactive nature centre in the Uzhanskyi National Nature Park, created within the project, will show visitors the diversity of local flora and fauna with exciting interactive exhibits that will turn learning into an interesting journey. Another centre at Uzhhorod National University will focus on the academic aspect of environmental education and will serve as a platform for research and interdisciplinary cooperation. On the other side of the border in Jaroslaw, a similar educational centre and green areas will be created. Its main theme will be related to the preservation of biodiversity through education in the field of honey bees. The services of the centres will be addressed to children, youth, students and the local community in general, as well as tourists. To popularise knowledge about the unique nature of these parks, albums will be created that describe their biodiversity in details. Also, the project envisages the implementation of specialised environmental education programmes for primary and secondary schools in the border regions.

The creation of natural science exhibition centres will raise the level of knowledge on environmental education and awareness in the region, while the implementation of educational programmes will ensure the training of a new generation of citizens capable of responsible attitudes to the environment.
