In today's challenging times, safety plays a crucial role in our lives. Threats from climate change, such as floods and fires, along with local risks like industrial accidents, are becoming an increasing concern for everyone. Additional risks are also posed by the ongoing war.

The main goal of the FIRE&WATERPROOF project implemented by the Lublin Community (PL) and Rivne City Council (UA) is to improve municipal security systems in response to these threats. Two rescue units will be equipped for rescue and recovery operations, and monitoring, preparedness, warning, and disaster response systems will be created or upgraded. In Rivne, the replacement of 100 damaged underground fire hydrants will enhance fire protection, increasing firefighting effectiveness both in wartime, when the city is at risk of attacks, and in peacetime during various emergencies. The mobile flood storage facility in Lublin will reduce the operating time in flood operations, especially in terms of lowering flood waters. Containers with necessary equipment will be easily transported to the scene, cutting down on transport time and costs. Rescue equipment such as suits, helmets, torches, and generators will be purchased to help mitigate risks more effectively. Around 200 participants will receive training through workshops and study visits. Additionally, educational campaigns and publications will raise public awareness of these risks.

These measures will enhance the prevention of climate change-related floods and fires. They will also improve the management and protection of water resources by adapting infrastructure to extreme weather conditions. Cooperation between services in both areas, alongside the exchange of experiences and development of joint solutions, will ultimately increase safety.
