Project description

The percentage of people diagnosed with cancer is high in both Poland and Ukraine, and the number of cancer cases, including those affecting the urogenital system, continues to rise. Modern technologies can significantly improve treatment outcomes, reduce post-operative complications, and accelerate recovery. However, medical facilities in both countries often struggle to provide the necessary care due to a lack of equipment and insufficient expertise among medical staff.

Partner hospitals: Fryderyk Chopin University Clinical Hospital in Rzeszów and Lviv Regional Hospital of Veterans of Wars and Repressed, named after Yurii Lypa have launched the SURLAP project to address these issues. The project aims to improve access to high-quality surgical treatment using laparoscopic techniques in areas such as urology and oncological urology. It seeks to enhance treatment outcomes, increase patient safety, and create equal opportunities for patients undergoing surgery in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and Lviv Oblast through joint cross-border activities. The purchase of medical equipment by both hospitals will help to increase the number of laparoscopic surgeries performed at the hospital in Rzeszów, and enable the introduction of laparoscopic surgery at the hospital in Liviv. Each partner will also host two three-day workshops for medical staff, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Additionally, information about the project’s achievements will be shared through promotional activities.
An important aspect of the project is the development of guidelines for laparoscopic surgery, which will be incorporated into the medical school curriculum.

The project will enhance the availability and quality of services while reducing the risk of post-operative complications.
