Project description

In the face of a growing environmental crisis, the importance of reliable access to water sources is increasing. Thanks to the European Funds many different activities, which support solutions related to the  access to water are implemented. This is also the case in Interreg4water project. The main problems to solve are: inadequate sanitary sewage system and wastewater treatment which cause negative consequences for the environment and the quality of life of inhabitants in Garwolin (PL) and Brody (UA), lack of inhabitants' awareness of proper water management, and finally, the insufficient capacity of local authorities to wastewater management.

Investment activities on the Polish side will include the construction of the sewage network in Garwolin (almost 3 km) and in Siedlce Commune (over 2 km). This will connect around 200 people to the networks. In Ukraine, the outdated and inefficient sewage treatment plant in Brody will be reconstructed. Planned works include the removal and replacement of existing obsolete equipment and facilities. In the next phase, reconstruction will take place, including the installation of pumps, piping, ventilation, heating, sewage networks, electrics and fire protection system. On the both sides of the border investment activities will be complemented by soft ones, such as opening and final conferences, publication of promotional articles in regional media, educational visit, art events, eco-picnics, interactive workshops, trainings and finally a promotional video. There will be a joint strategy on the impact of wastewater treatment plants on water quality and ecosystems.

The implementation of these activities will have a positive impact on increasing ecological awareness of residents of the municipalities participating in the project, with particular emphasis on young people. In addition, it will facilitate the exchange of experiences between the staff of institutions involved in water and wastewater management and significantly improve the competence of public actors in this field. A cleaner environment and better access to modern infrastructure will improve the quality of life of residents.
