With climate change causing an increase in the frequency of forest fires, floods and storms it is crucial to have efficient, well-trained and properly equipped emergency services. That is why the improvement to the number and quality of firefighting and rescue equipment as well as the training of the firefighters to combat these natural disasters is pivotal.

The main objective of the project is to strengthen cooperation between the emergency services operating in the cross-border area in order to respond more effectively to the emerging threats of forest fires and to deal with natural disasters such as floods and storms. Seven rescue and fire-fighting vehicles (light, medium and heavy ones) will be purchased on the Polish side. Two fire tankers and motor pumps, 26 sets of protective clothing for firefighters, as well as 1 set of equipment for firemen will be bought on the Ukrainian side. The project includes 2 trainings – 160 rescuers on both sides of the border will be trained in dealing with disasters. An opening and closing conferences, picnics for residents to promote the project and its outputs as well as the educational campaign "For a clean environment" are planned.

All these activities will allow for a more efficient means of dealing with forest fires and other natural disasters. Mutual cooperation and learning during the exercises as well as the exchange of experiences will allow to better use the purchased equipment. The implementation of the project creates a strong basis for further cooperation among the partners. Our environment will become safer in this rapidly changing world.
