The main objective of the project is to enhance cross-border accessibility and mobility of road infrastructure in the Podlaskie Voivodeship and Volyn Oblast. This initiative is part of the EU-UA Solidarity Trails, aimed at improving safety and efficiency of cross-border traffic for both people and goods.
The CrossBorderRoads project foresees reconstructing regional road No. 662, which connects Augustów, Suwałki, and Budzisko, covering a distance of approximately 590 meters. This includes demolishing the existing bridge over the Klonownica River and constructing a new one. On the Ukrainian side, the partner will repair 8.97 km of the international importance road M-19: Domanove-Kovel-Chernivtsi-Terebleche road. This capital repair will involve installing a new road surface structure that will increase traffic capacity by at least 1.5 times. Additionally, new pedestrian and bicycle paths will be created alongside the roads. The project also includes plans for Joint Training on Road Construction and Maintenance. The main objective is to equip construction workers and engineers with the latest techniques in road building and the use of modern materials, while promoting environmentally responsible practices and sustainable development.
Once completed, the project is expected to benefit over 2 million residents in the Volyn Oblast and Podlaskie Voivodeship. Local communities along both modernized roads will be directly impacted by the improvements. The project will result in increasing the comfort of transit and tourist traffic, providing better opportunities for both potential and current investors.
