The project addresses common problems and challenges of the Polish–Ukrainian border area in the field of safety, including insufficient equipment of rescue units, extended response times to incidents, gaps in early warning systems, and limited public awareness of risk prevention.
Safety4US will strengthen civil protection systems in the context of climate-related threats, fires, and natural disasters. The project focuses on modernising the technical capacity of volunteer fire brigades through the purchase of modern firefighting and rescue vehicles, reconnaissance vehicles, quad bikes, a rescue boat, drones, sonar equipment, underwater rescue equipment, and protective clothing for more than 50 firefighters in Poland and Ukraine. An important component of the project also includes infrastructure investments, such as the installation of fire alarm systems in seven public institutions in Liublinets (UA) and the comprehensive reconstruction of the Safety Centre in Ustyluh (UA), which serves as a local crisis response facility.
The investment activities will be complemented by joint Polish–Ukrainian training sessions for firefighters and youth rescue teams in first aid, water rescue, casualty care, and firefighting tactics, as well as study visits, youth camps, and pilot educational activities. As part of the project, a trilingual methodological handbook on safety and crisis response in the cross-border area will be developed. By increasing the effectiveness of rescue services, the project is expected to deliver a direct improvement in safety for more than 25,000 residents of the area covered by the supported units.
