The Programme has its first frontrunner – the RescueCars healthcare project, which is the first to complete all of its planned activities, submit its final report, and complete the financial closure of the project. What is more, it used as much as 99.43% of its planned budget! The project, “Improvement of health safety in the Łosice district and Ivano-Frankivsk city”, implemented by the Independent Public HealthCare Center in Łosice and the Municipal Non-commercial Enterprise “Central City Clinical Hospital of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council”, has contributed to improving the quality of healthcare services and health security on both sides of the border.
The project focused on developing healthcare infrastructure, equipping medical facilities with modern equipment, and strengthening cooperation between partners from Poland and Ukraine. At the hospital in Łosice, the project financed the construction of a covered ambulance bay, a surgical treatment room, and a patient waiting area, significantly improving the conditions for providing emergency medical care.
As part of the project, the partners also purchased state-of-the-art medical equipment. The hospital in Łosice acquired a patient transport ambulance and specialised endoscopic equipment, significantly enhancing its diagnostic capacity, particularly in gastrointestinal diagnostics.
The partner in Ivano-Frankivsk purchased two fully equipped patient transport ambulances, including one fitted with a mobile X-ray unit and a portable ultrasound scanner. This equipment will enable rapid diagnostics and assessment of patients’ conditions even before they arrive at a medical facility.
The project also included educational activities and the exchange of professional experience. The partners developed good practices for medical transport and the proper use of Emergency Medical Services. Educational community events were organised for residents of Łosice and Ivano-Frankivsk to promote disease prevention, healthy lifestyles, and the appropriate use of emergency healthcare services. In addition, educational activities for primary school pupils helped raise health awareness among the youngest.
RescueCars is the first project to complete implementation under the Programme and another example of the tangible benefits that cross-border cooperation brings to people living in the Polish-Ukrainian border region. We look forward to seeing more projects successfully achieve their objectives.
