Water is very important to human life, and access to it plays a key role in the functioning of the community. Most of the sewage networks in Ternopil (UA) are dilapidated. The most dangerous is the possibility of emergency situations – in case of damage of two lines of pipelines at the same time and a threat of wastewater leaks to the surface in densely built-up residential areas, onto the roads of the city and/or to the Seret River, it is necessary to carry out reconstruction of the wastewater collector. In Suwałki (PL), on the other hand, almost 15% of network is over 40 years old. Thanks to the funds from the Programme, the situation will be improved.
The implementation of the joint project includes modernisation and renovation of the sewage infrastructure in Suwałki with a length of approx. 0.75 km and in Ternopil with a length of 1.5 km. Moreover, workshop on sustainable sewage management is planned. During the workshop, a detailed analysis, discussion and comparison of both methods in Suwałki and Ternopil and technologies, their advantages, benefits and other aspects on sustainable sewage management, will be presented. Soft activities include opening and final conference.
As a result of the project, modernisation and renovation of sewage infrastructure in both cities will take place. All these activities will reduce environmental pollution, especially in the Czarna Hańcza and Seret rivers. The safety of wastewater management will be improved. Specialists from both cities will be able to familiarise themselves with the works performed in two cities. Additionally, they willcompare solutions for sewage system modernisation. It will help them choose the best solution, and thus achieve the greatest possible benefits for the natural environment.
