Project description

We are increasingly affected by various natural disasters. The main challenge is to ensure the safety of people while protecting their property, health and lives. The problem is the lack of adequate equipment and specialised knowledge for Voluntary Fire Brigades on both sides of the border.

The main objective of the FireFighters project is to prevent adverse events in the cross-border area of the Lubelskie Voivodeship and Rivne Oblast. To achieve this, the project will develop cross-border standards for monitoring, preparedness, warning and response to natural disasters during face-to-face and online working group meetings. Additionally,  trainings for uniformed services in Poland and Ukraine will be carried out. The project will include 4 study visits for the administration and voluntary fire brigades from both sides of the border. Firefighters will improve their skills through various trainings, i.e. a course on communication principles, first aid training. Fire brigade units will receive essential equipment for the prevention and recovery from natural disasters. On the Polish side, equipment will be purchased for 38 units, and on the Ukrainian side for 16 units, among others: boats, water and ice rescue kits, wetsuits, waistcoats, rescue darts, lifebuoys, motor pumps, communication equipment, water tank and other small equipment.

As part of the educational activities, lectures will be held in 30 schools, for a total of about 750 students. To complement the workshops, a publication for children and young people will be published, together with the electronic version. There will be meetings with citizens, and 2 conferences at the beginning and end to engage the community.

The FireFighters project will increase the level of safety by better equipping fire brigades with both equipment and skills. Moreover, citizens will gain valuable knowledge and how respond appropriately in emergency situations.
