Rohatyn Urban Territorial Community is interested in preparing a joint Polish-Ukrainian small-scale project within the Small Projects Fund CrossEco / Interreg NEXT Poland–Ukraine 2021–2027 under Priority 1 “Environment”. The project idea is aimed at improving municipal waste management, developing separate waste collection, introducing elements of organic waste composting, and raising environmental awareness among community residents. The relevance of the project for Rohatyn community lies in the fact that in some starosta districts, the system of separate municipal waste collection has not yet been introduced or is not functioning effectively enough. This creates the problem of mixed waste accumulation, increases the burden on the municipal waste management system, and does not contribute to the transition to a circular economy. Within the project, it is planned to pilot the installation of containers for separate waste collection in selected settlements of the community, install composters in public locations, conduct an information and awareness-raising campaign for residents, and organize training activities for representatives of local self-government bodies, starostas, educational institutions, and municipal services. An important component of the project should be cooperation with a Polish partner, in particular with a gmina that has practical experience in organizing separate municipal waste collection, informing residents, administering the waste management system, and working with the local population. Such cooperation will make it possible not only to purchase equipment, but also to adapt the Polish partner’s practical solutions to the conditions of the Ukrainian community.
