Another contract signed – for the cooperation of firefighters from the Lublin and Volyn regions

On 25th October, during a ceremony at the Lubelskie Voivodeship Office in Lublin, another grant contract was signed for the Polish-Ukrainian regular project "Joint promotion and implementation of activities related to climate change resilience – natural disasters and fires" (acronym ClimSafe) from the priority Environment. It was a special occasion, both for the lead partner and the other guests, to meet in such an honorable group. The grant contract was signed in the presence of the Deputy Voivode of Lubelskie Voivodeship Wojciech Wołoch and the Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin Oleh Kuts, by Konrad Wojnarowski – Deputy Minister of Funds and Regional Policy and Senior Brigadier Zenon Pisiewicz – Regional Commander of the State Fire Service in Lublin.  Deputy Minister Konrad Wojnarowski reminded of the importance of the project for the safety of the inhabitants of the entire Lubelskie Voivodeship, and Deputy Voivode Wojciech Wołoch appreciated the possibility of building joint cross-border resilience of Polish and Ukrainian emergency and fire services. Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin Oleh Kuts expressed his thanks to the project partners and noted that Poland is a key partner for Ukraine, which gives an opportunity to build cross-border partnerships and benefit from valuable experience. 

Commander Zenon Pisiewicz presented the main objectives of the project. He also stressed the importance of the vicinity of the Lubelskie Voivodeship and the Volyn Oblast, when threats know no borders, and the overriding goal is to help residents and mutually support services on both sides of the border.

The ClimSafe project is implemented by the Provinvial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Lublin (PL) in partnership with the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Volyn Region (UA).

The project concerns activities aimed at adapting to the ongoing climate change and preventing natural and climatic disasters in the border area of Poland and Ukraine. The project will support rescue and firefighting units:

- on the Polish side – through the purchase of specialized equipment, such as operational, rescue and firefighting vehicles, a 4x4 bus with specialized equipment, rescue equipment.

- on the Ukrainian side – through the reconstruction of the Training and Practical Center for Fire Volunteer Training and Rescue Training Center in Lutsk.

Partners will organize trainings and exchange experiences. The idea of the project is also to build solid foundations for future cooperation between rescuers in this cross-border area.

The project is implemented in the ENVIRONMENT priority, and its co-financing from the Programme is EUR 2,087,496.02.
