The negative impacts of global climate change have intensified in recent years. Droughts and water shortages, combined with extreme temperatures, have significantly increased the severity of fires. To adapt to, prevent, and mitigate the effects of climate change, particularly forest fires along the Polish-Ukrainian border close cooperation between rescue and fire services is essential.
In response, partners from Peremyshlany (UA) and Łosice (PL) have joined forces to address this challenge in their areas.. To ensure the safety of their residents, they plan to purchase a total of 8 rescue and firefighting vehicles: 5 for the Polish side and 3 for the Ukrainian side. These vehicles will be specially equipped for firefighting operations, environmental protection, and dealing with hazardous contaminationIn addition, it is planned to purchase equipment for the vehicle crews, such as protective clothing, helmets, leather and rubber boots, special gloves, and balaclavas . Rescue personnel will also participate in training programmes to exchange knowledge, gain experience, and improve their skills in protecting the health and property of local residents.
Moreover, two camps will be organised for members and candidates of youth firefighting teams from the Volunteer Fire Brigades in Łosice and Peremyshlany. These camps will provide participants with opportunities to engage in educational and physical activities focused on building endurance and strength.
Through this project, the safety and protection of residents in the cross-border region will be enhanced. Furthermore, the joint efforts will strengthen cooperation between the fire brigades of Poland and Ukraine.
